Montclair Iberian Restaurant Tasca Announces Closure Less Than a Year After Opening
Downtown Montclair will have one less restaurant come early May. Tasca, an Iberian restaurant located at 377 Bloomfield Avenue, announced its upcoming closure less than a year after opening in MTC. The spot first opened on May 17th, 2024, and quickly became a go-to restaurant for locals with its pre-fixe menu featuring Iberian eats. Read on for more about Tasca's closure and what we will miss about the Montclair restaurant.
The Upcoming Closure
On Tuesday, April 22nd, the Tasca team announced its upcoming closure, effective May 4th, 2025, via Instagram:
"Sergio here, from Tasca. While this past year has been a joyously eventful and ground breaking experience for us, we are saddened to announce that we will be closing our doors at Tasca as of May 4th.
We have sold to new ownership of the space that will be introducing a new concept later this Fall.
Many factors went into making this decision, the biggest one simply being a quality of life matter. With attempting to manage two restaurants a significant distance apart from each other, and still trying to be a present husband and father to two active children, it became challenging to truly be present and involved as much as I would like in either regard.
The upside is, I got to open and experience a restaurant I always wanted to see happen and with the help of the team, did so with tremendous acclaim, being named restaurant of the year by multiple sources. So, as bitter-sweet as it all is, at least I can walk away knowing that what was accomplished at Tasca was something both notable and inspiring.
All of my time and focus will now be spent at Torino in Metuchen, which will be transitioning to a seasonal and modern farm-fresh Italian concept called Terzo in the upcoming weeks. Future plans there will also include tasting menu events featuring Iberian and Italian fusion nights that I very much look forward to hosting and keeping close to my Iberian roots.
With all that said, if you would like to come by and experience Tasca one last time, or even for the first time before it’s gone, join us over these next two weekends for our last nights of service.
Reservations are open on Resy or directly through our website www.tascabistro.com
Lastly, a big thank you to the Tasca team, both past and present, some of which will be joining me at Terzo in Metuchen, and to all of our fans that showed such a huge appreciation for what we’ve put out there.
I look forward to seeing you all one last time and hopefully again in the future at Terzo.
Obrigado!"
The Montclair Girl has reached out to Tasca and this post will be updated with any further comments or information surrounding the new ownership.

About Tasca
Located at 377 Bloomfield Avenue, Tasca is hiding in plain sight on the main strip of downtown Montclair. It’s a cute, cozy spot located directly across from Mud Clay Studio. Once inside, guests are greeted by chic decor in a dramatically lit space. Wall art gives a nod to Portugal and Spain, adding a touch of Europe to New Jersey.
New Jersey foodies will recognize Chef Rob Santello from breakout eateries such as Heirloom Kitchen in Old Bridge and St. Laurant in Asbury Park. General Manager/Partner Sergio Moutela is no stranger to the food scene as Executive Chef at Metuchen’s Torino. The mission of Tasca is to bring Iberian food to new heights, and the culinary team has hand-selected each item on the menu with care.
The main part of the artistry of Tasca is the curated seasonal menu. Guests who choose to partake in spirited beverages can select from half or full bottles of wine or sangria. Since this is a full dining experience, Tasca serves a pre-fixe menu consisting of three courses and the option to add dessert.
The first two courses are served tapas (small plate) style and are meant for personal consumption. The third course is more of a full entree portion, with each course featuring a vegan option. For dessert, the Pastel de Nata cronut is a must-try, along with the vegan Azorean pineapple carpaccio. Coffee, espresso, and Portuguese teas are available with dessert as well.
