Fast food, food to go, and comfort food have long been quick and easy ways to satisfy kids, adults, and whole families. The choices are unlimited: pizza, burgers, or ramen - everyone has their favorite go-to. Fried chicken and wings restaurants have also made a space for themselves, proving that chicken is a popular choice as well. The Nugget Spot at 641 Shunpike Road in Chatham is quickly becoming the cherished gem for chicken nuggets as it redefines fast food and gives chicken nuggets a new identity. Behind The Nugget Spot

The Nugget Spot, located at 641 Shunpike Road in Chatham, is Jason Hairston's culinary creation. Jason opened the original Nugget Shop in New York City in 2013, on 14th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenue.

Before opening his restaurant, Jason worked in the kitchens of hotels and fine-dining restaurants for ten years. He wanted to apply everything he learned in fine dining to one of his favorite fast foods, the chicken nugget. Jason told The Montclair Girl he wanted to make a Shack Shack-type restaurant for chicken nuggets. “I wanted to elevate the nugget.” He saw no reason why he couldn’t make a better version that is playful and enticing.

To differentiate his nuggets from those of other fast-food restaurants and the frozen versions available in supermarkets, Jason only uses non-processed chicken, the freshest ingredients, and superior flour for the coatings and batter. This recipe for success proved itself. The Nugget Spot in New York quickly became a staple, serving residents, tourists, and those enjoying the city's nightlife until COVID-19, ultimately forcing Jason to close his restaurant.

The Food

There are five different nuggets available: the Skinny Nugs, which are baked, not fried; the Regs, a traditional southern-fried style; Say Cheeze Nugs, which are coated in Cheeze-its; a vegetarian option that is mushroom-based; and The Montclair Girl’s favorite, The Captain. These are nuggets coated in Cap’n Crunch cereal. We suggest dipping them into the Nacho Queso sauce, one of 12 different elevated and creative sauces available, some of which are Mr. Pickle, Truffle Mayo, Sweet Chili, and Golden BBQ.

Two kinds of chicken sandwiches are Instagram-worthy, and the Signature Nacho Mac and Cheese is unforgettable. Other sides include Brunt Broccoli served in garlic oil and parmesan seasoning and perfectly fried French fries. The in-house-made lemonade is a refreshing accompaniment. Catering is available, and diners are welcome to eat in or order takeout.

When Jason is not at his restaurant, he can be found at Sunday Motor in Madison, enjoying coffee while he thinks of his newest nugget creation.
