Montclair is known for its strong sense of community and supportive, ever-changing resources available for residents. So it is no surprise that Montclair is ahead of the curve and shedding light on menopause, one of the most essential buzzwords among women over 40. Today, menopause is being recognized and is making its way into mainstream health and acknowledgment. The Montclair Girl’s first introduction to resources available in Montclair for menopause was during a screening of a documentary called The M Factor, produced by Tamsen Fadal and Montclair’s very own Joanne LaMarca. Loopwell, a wellness community space in town, hosted the screening. Conversations blossomed, and access to menopause resources presented itself. Physical Health + Fitness
Next Level Physio Montclair | 8 Lackawanna Plaza Suite A, Montclair
Next Level Physio Montclair is a physical therapy and fitness group working with adults over forty. The team concentrates on physical goals patients cannot meet presently, as well as injuries and age-related physical setbacks. Dr. David Kwon, a physical therapist and manager of Next Level, explains that all new clients go through a detailed four-factor analysis. This includes diet, hydration, stress levels, and quality of sleep. The fifth factor is metabolic health. Specifically for women, this is where perimenopause and menopause come into play. Dr. Kwon explains that menopause decreases the body’s ability to handle physiological stress. It also decreases tendon health, blood flow, energy levels, and muscle mass gain. Chronic injuries can also turn into debilitating pain. Osteoporosis is another concern related to menopause. There is positive news. Lifting weights with proper form and technique builds muscle mass and produces hormones, specifically testosterone, which counteracts menopause symptoms and benefits bone health. Next Level Physio provides one-on-one analysis, physical therapy, and training. It also has small group training explicitly choreographed for each group.
Health + Wellness Coaching
Montclair Health Coaching | Online
Suzi Dia, a certified nurse and national board-certified health and wellness coach, is the owner of Montclair Health Coaching, a holistic wellness coaching practice that supports women through nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress management. Suzi’s motivation to help women navigate the journey of menopause came to her toward the end of COVID-19. She noticed that she and women like her, who were going through menopause, had deprioritized their wellness and were trying to find out how to get back to the basics of good health. Suzi decided to dedicate her practice to helping women educate themselves about every aspect of menopause. She achieved a certification from The Perimenopause + Menopause Certification Program and then studied with The Menopause 2.0 program, which concentrates on physically caring for your body through menopause. Finally, Suzi became certified as a menopause weight loss coach. Her strategy is simplified into five steps. Prioritize; Simplify; Align; Take Action; Grow + Thrive. Esthetic + Skincare Services
Kate’s Skin Revision Clinic | 74 Church Street, Montclair
Kate’s Skin Revision Clinic is a full-spectrum skin clinic, and Kate customizes every treatment to each individual’s needs and concerns. Kate Wiklinski, the owner, has been practicing skincare for 30 years and offers the most modern treatments, facials, and a variety of body treatments. She explains that during menopause, hormones fluctuate, which can cause dryness, thickness of the skin, lack of collagen, and hormonal breakouts. It may be overwhelming, but Kate’s confidence in addressing the challenges and changes in menopausal skin is reassuring, and the goal is achieving healthy skin and a healthy skin barrier. Every new client fills out an intake form with information about medications, current skincare routines, the timeframe of onset of menopause, and diet. From there, personalized treatments and at-home maintenance are recommended. The Bespoke Age Management Treatment and Customized Hydrafacial MD are two of her most popular services. Kate shared two crucial pieces of advice with MG: “ The correct cleanser for your skin type is the most vital step of the skincare routine, and proper skincare education is more important than anything else."

Evolve Med Spa | 46 South Park Street, Montclair
Evolve Med Spa is a medical spa at 46 South Park Street, Montclair. We met with Aysia, the spa’s concierge. She explained that the services offered, such as injectables, body contouring, and skin rejuvenation, are ideal for women in their forties, as they address changes in the skin that come hand in hand with perimenopause and menopause. One of the more popular treatments, which may not be as well known because women are uncomfortable talking about it, is PRP Therapy for hair loss. This practice uses platelets from your blood to restore hair growth. Laser Hair removal is also available, as facial hair may become more prominent with menopause.
