Yes, chef! After it was confirmed earlier this year that The Bear and Shameless star Jeremy Allen White would be playing Jersey native Bruce Springsteen in an upcoming biopic, the movie is now filming at Montclair Public Library’s Bellevue Avenue Branch. Aside from MTC, Deliver Me From Nowhere will be filming all over New Jersey in the coming months — including Asbury Park and Morris County. Allen White himself has even been spotted in Montclair and Hoboken in recent days. Read on for more about the filming for Deliver Me From Nowhere in Montclair, New Jersey.
The Details
On Saturday, October 26th, Montclair Public Library posted on its Facebook page saying that its Bellevue Avenue Branch is an official location for Deliver Me From Nowhere.
“You may have heard about the casting calls for the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere” that’s starring Emmy Award-winner Jeremy Allen White. Well, a piece of NJ music & media history will happen right here at the Montclair Public Library. The Bellevue Avenue Branch is an official location for the film! A subsequent Facebook post this morning said that the Bellevue Avenue Branch will have a delayed opening and open at 2PM today, Tuesday, October 29th, with public computer access available again on Wednesday, October 30th.
Per Montclair Local, a ramp labeled “rigging crew” was placed over the front stairs of the Bellevue Avenue Branch on Monday, and a sign on the front door stated “off limits” as film crews worked on a production. Library Director Radwa Ali also told Montclair Local that the crew chose this Montclair spot as a filming location due to its historic character.
NJ.com reported that Jeremy Allen White was seen filming at the Bellevue Avenue Branch yesterday, Monday, October 28th.
This news comes shortly after Allen White was spotted in Hoboken both on Sunday, October 27th, and today, Tuesday, October 29th, although it is unsure if the biopic will film there. Deliver Me From Nowhere will also film in Asbury Park this December — head over to our sister site The Jersey Shore Girl for all of the details on that.
Grant Wilfley Casting, a Manhattan-based casting company, also recently announced a public casting call for New Jersey locals to appear as extras in Deliver Me From Nowhere in Morris County, the Meadowlands, and Asbury Park.
The film, written and directed by Scott Cooper, is an adaptation of Warren Zanes’ book of the same name — Deliver Me From Nowhere — which is all about the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska. The movie will show The Boss’ pivotal years in the early to mid-80s as he reached worldwide fame as well as his childhood days growing up at the Jersey Shore in the 1950s.
“The development of Nebraska, which followed Springsteen’s 1981 The River Tour, marked a pivotal time in his life, one that he would only openly talk about decades after its release. It’s regarded as a landmark in his musical odyssey and a source of inspiration for a generation of artists and musicians,” The Walt Disney Company explained in a press release. “Recorded on a 4-track recorder in Springsteen’s New Jersey bedroom and without The E Street Band, Nebraska is considered one of Springsteen’s most enduring works—a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.” The film is slated to release in 2025.
